When I was starting my second character, I read through all the descriptions and chose Balance Magic in the end as well. Balanced magic is a fairly small mod that's way too old to have some of the newer features modders use these days. Apocalypse and mods like that maby make magic a bit more diverse and fun but you are always either op or dead.

I understand perks play the role of the damage booster, but to which extent ? Spellsword-style builds are often restricted to only using one-handed weapons and are unable to use shields or two-handed weapons because of the need to have at least one hand channeling a spell.
